Cars have now overtaken bicycles as the main means of transportation in Beijing . Nonetheless, you will still see more bicycles in the city than you will find anywhere else.
Cycling is an excellent way to explore the city and is encouraged by local authorities. Virtually every major thoroughfare in Beijing has its own bicycle lane. And given the typical Beijing traffic and its overcrowded streets, a bicycle may even take you to your destination faster than any car or bus.
There are many places where you can rent a bike in Beijing , including hotels and some hostels. There's also a popular bicycle touring company called Bicycle Kingdom Rentals and Tours which provides its own tour guide. Bike rentals are available on an hourly basis.
