Beijing nightlife centers around the action that takes place in the Beijing bars. However, there are many dance and music clubs in the city and, while they may not be world famous, they are often crowded with excited and loyal locals and foreigners alike. The first Beijing nightlife area developed around the Worker's Stadium as an offshoot of the Sanlitun bar district. The clubs here remain the most popular in the city, playing a variety of music and staying open all night on the weekend. The two most popular are:

Closer to the Sanlitun bar street are several other clubs which change frequently. One long time standby is Loft, which plays techno music and jazz. Loft also features regular live acts and art installations.

Another Beijing nightlife favorite is the massive Club Banana, which has frequent live DJs and plays several different styles of techno music in the many theme rooms. Open all night on the weekends, Club Banana attracts everyone from students to celebrities.

Beijing nightlife is not all dance clubs. There are many places to watch live music or to enjoy a drink in a lounge atmosphere. Two of the best are the World of Suzie Wong, a classic Beijing lounge that offers an elegant atmosphere and relaxed music, and the CD Cafe, which has frequent live jazz performances.

Houhai
A lively beer focused neon lit area. At the southern end is Lotus lane with swish bars and restaurants. Moving up the bank is Yindong Bridge with lots of vendors and drinking. Off the bridge is Yandai Xiejie with it's mock ancient buildings and bars. The whole area stretches east - West from Di'anmenwai Dajie and Xinjikekaou and South - North from Di'anmen Xidajie and Beiierhuan Lu.
Sanlitun
A busy bar area located between Dongsanhuan Lu and Gongti Xilu and from the north to the south between Gongti Nanlu and Dongzhimenwai Dajie.
Women's Street
Women's Street is outside Dong Sanhuan Beilu in Chaoyang district.
Wudaokou
Wudaokou stretches along Chegfu Lu in Haidin District.
