Haidian District and
15 kilometres from Beijing.
The Summer Palace is
a classical Chinese garden,
established in the Jin
Dynasty (1115-1234) and
covers 294 hectares most
of which is water. The
Summer Palace contains
pavilions, towers, bridges,
and divides into a court
area, front hill area,
lake area, rear hill
and the back lake.
The
front hill is where
the Gate of Dispelling
Clouds, Hall of Dispelling
Clouds, Hall of Moral
Glory and the Tower of
Buddhist Incense are
found. The Garden of
Harmonious Interest is
found in the rear hill
area. Views of the lake
can be seen from the
front lake area where
there is the Seventeen-Arch
Bridge and on the west
side is the Jade-Belt
Bridge.
The main entry point
is the Hall of Benevolent
Longetivity. Close by
is the Hall of Jade ripples
and the Hall for Cultivating
Happiness and Longetivity.
